On to this weekend. I flew out yesterday evening, to Denver (on Frontier Airlines. Not sure what the word ‘frontier’ refers to here: pushing back the frontiers of travel, by cramming as many people into a plane, feeding them with stale bread and tasteless cheese and salami, whilst demanding $5 from them if they wish to watch satellite TV on the seatback screen? In any case, the experience was NOt a pleasant one, and will certainly go a long way in my decision making when my travel plans require me to visit Denver in the future!

We (Larry and Lane Hoppen, myself and Marc Lewis, our road manager/engineer for this trip – also an excellent drummer, by the way) arrived in the early evening, to discover that John Hall and Lance Hoppen, flying in from Nashville, had been delayed over an hour. So we endured two and a half hours of waiting at Denver airport, as the shops and restaurants closed for the evening, one after the other, leaving us no choice but to stand in line at a Burger King, and be subjected to poor service from surly employees. Eventually John and Lance arrived, looking every bit as shattered as we were, and we set off on the 2 hour van trip up the mountains, to Frisco, Colorado! In daylight, this trip is spectacular for its scenery. At night, when all you want to do is go to sleep because your body clock keeps telling you it is 2am, it is nothing short of dreary! The van seats were not equipped with head rests, and the back only came halfway up to my shoulders, so I woke up with a start every time I nodded off. But we eventually arrived at the Holiday Inn and promptly checked in and went to sleep.
