The Brewery, Monaghan

Back up the winding road to Monaghan…. by this time I know the route well! We met up with Sorla for lunch, and were then able to check into the B&B. Load in was up a tight set of stairs, but we were helped by a couple of strong lads, which made all the difference! This gig is so small as to not really need much miking up, but we plugged in whatever we could, just so Scott had an element of control out front. We are at one end of the upstairs bar, which is on two levels: we are on the highest level. It’s really cramped, but we’ll manage somehow!

After sound check, we were taken to a Chinese restaurant opposite, which was really good, too! Manfred, a German fan who flew over for several days here, and who has been really helpful this past week, joined us at the table. It’s really amazing to see some of the people taking the trouble to come all the way across Europe to see us! I believe the first time when John and I actually MET Manfred was when we played with Elton at a field South of Frankfurt…. he was staying at the same hotel as us, and was in the bar after the show! Aschaffenberg, I believe it was (Manfred, correct me if I am wrong). The field was originally home to a number of Zeppelins!

I was a little disappointed in theturnout tonight. i was expecting more people (no idea why, but I was). The people who DID come, however, really appreciated the show. It was early in the morning by the time we had packed up the van (different pack, as we are all going in different directions in the morning) and said our various farewells. Alan and Vivian are heading back to Scotland via Northern Ireland……. JJ, Scott and I are taking Jeff to a flight from Dublin, then we head across the Irish sea once again, to Wales and England.
