June 6th, 2002&text2=our first “proper” gig, in Kingston-upon-Hull, East Yorkshire&text3=This is our third time playing the Springhead, and JJ’s fourth or fifth time (Hellecasters gigs). There is a hard core of Hellecasters fans here, who have now become JJ fans. Tony Beastie (promoter) puts on a good show, and really gets the ‘punters’ in through the door. It was sad, leaving the Bein Inn, but I can think of worse places to go than here. We drove down to Carlisle (where I bade my family farewell: they went back down to London), and cut across the Pennines on the A66, which is a really
picturesque route across the bleak moors. As it turns out, we were lucky to get across, as they closed the route the next day, due to bad weather (mist rain, fog etc…. this IS summer in England)! The traffic really started to get bad on the other side of the Pennines. The A1 is notorious for long lines of vehicles, all travelling at 50mph. In the end, we actually made good time, and were setting up at the Springhead by 5pm. After sound check, there was enough time to check into the Campanile Hotel (in downtown Hull), and wash and change for the gig. Terry and Pam at the Springhead, always supply a good spread of food, so we didn’t need feeding! The crowd were both attentive and appreciative. I remember this from the last two times we played here. It was great to be back!
