We were up and on the road early, as JJ had a radio interview in Northampton. It didn’t take long to get round the M25 and onto the M1 motorway. The rendezvous was at the Northampton College of Art, so the rest of us took advantage of the subsidised cafeteria while John did the interview. From Northampton, the drive was straightforward enough, although much of it was not motorway. Lincoln seems to have been passed by when it comes to good roads. So we trundled along the single-lane roads, behind a line of trucks. Despite the slowness of the second half of our journey, we still arrived in plenty of time. Nettleham is a picturesque little village just North of Lincoln, and the Black Horse is one of what seems like a dozen or so pubs in the village ALONE! The publican, Tom and his wife, Clare greeted us and offered refreshments. This place is almost as small as the Bein Inn, although it IS longer, and possibly narrower. By the time the PA guys arrived, we were fully set up! So sound check was a relatively painless affair. Before long, we were in the lounge bar having dinner!
We had a great gig…. the place was virtually sold out before we arrived in the UK, and the few remaining seats were sold on the night. So we played to a packed house of over 75 people (bearing in mind the size of the room). After the gig, John, Scott and Jeff went back to the B&B they were staying at, while Alan and I (who opted to stay at the pub) installed ourselves upstairs.
