We arrived at the hotel a shade after 4am, so it was about 5am before I got my bags, made it to my room and fell back into bed. What a noisy hotel… the elderly couple in the room adjoining mine yelled at each other from 7am, then the maid called to ask if I wanted my room cleaning. I wasn’t very polite… I said something like…”No… that’s why I put the Do-Not-Disturb notice on my door”… or words to that effect! By 11am, I gave up, and GOT up. After breakfast, I did my e mail, and then went and had a swim, and a brief workout in the gym.

Feeling better, I took a walk to the river, accompanied by John (Mahon). We saw a killer Bluegrass band playing at a small fair that was set up on the riverbank. Then it was back to the hotel to prepare for the gig. I had so many problems last night, that I want to go down early to check things out. Pete has changed the tom heads. The others lasted 2 gigs. Not a good sign. Normally we would expect to change them every 4-5 shows. I can’t believe that I’m playing harder than the last tour. Certainly not so early on in the tour. We’ll see. I’m so tired today that I’m sure I won’t play THAT hard tonight.Another fabulous gig.Even Clive enjoyed it.. the hall had a much better sound. Elton was on top form… the fans went crazy. It really helped to pull me out of the slump I felt before going on stage… After the gig, buoyed up by adrenaline, I was unable to get to sleep immediately. I joined the others for a drink down at the bar. Just a quick one, mind you.
