Today has been something of a revelation.. Fargo is possibly the most “out of the way” place I’ve visited in the USA. For a “major town” in a US state, it is interesting. The downtown “shopping mall” is a dozen shops in a street two blocks from here, and they have NOTHING in them. It seems like a very depressed area too.I suppose any place that gets this cold for this long every year is bound to look a bit bleak. After walking around for 15 minutes this morning, trying to find a place to have breakfast, I thought my ears had fallen off, and it was hard to actually move my mouth and SAY anything! The skin on my forehead felt like it was frozen in place!
We bussed to the gig early to avoid to crowds. This place holds 26,000…Sound check was OK. Elton was on great form, and the audience were suitably rowdy.I had a problem with my ear monitors, in fact I’ve been having trouble hearing properly for a few gigs now, and then tonight my left ear gave up totally. So Pete gave me a set of headphones while he found my old ear monitors. These too had a blown speaker in them, so I began to think I was going mad (or deaf, or BOTH). When I put on the old monitors, the World suddenly came back into perspective. It was like night & day! The sound was amazing! I could hear everything perfectly. It was also really loud, so I asked Pete to turn the volume right back down again. Apparently, the other ear monitors were getting worse each time I used them, and to compensate I was asking Pete to turn things up in them, which helped them to blow up more quickly. So now we need some new ones.I’m really tired tonight. Good thing the clocks go back, which gives me an extra hour, basically… I shall use it to its best…
