Bob Birch (bass)and John Mahon (perc/bv’s) picked me up at 8am and took me for a bike ride in the Burbank Hills. And a really serious ride it was, too. 4 miles uphill, to an elevation of 1500ft, and back down. It took us 1 hour 15 minutes to get up, and 15 minutes to come back down! SCARY STUFF! That should help to shift the jet lag. Had to change hotels today… from Burbank Airport Hilton to the Hyatt on Sunset… Rock & Roll hotel. Bumped into Little Richard in the lobby. He remembered me backing him 2 years ago at the APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles) show we did for Bernie Taupin. Amazing character! I rented a car and drove out to Davey Johnstone’s place for dinner. If you want to get anywhere in this town, you’ve GOT to have a car. If I had taken a cab, it would have cost twice the car rental… ridiculous! Davey and his family now live out in the wilderness by Malibu Canyon National Park. The scenery around the house is stunning! The HOUSE is stunning. I had a great time, chewing the fat before the tour proper starts.
