It’s amazing, really. It takes almost as long to get out of Manhattan, down the freeway to La Guardia, check in, go through security etc… as the flight itself! And the flight wasn’t exactly a bed of roses: firstly, we missed a flying goose by 20 feet on take-off (too close for my liking) then we encountered turbulence almost the entire way (on one occasion the pilot came over the intercom and asked the crew to suspend service and buckle up!!). As we came into land, we hit a couple of side winds that had all the
warning buzzers going off in the cockpit. Needless to say, I was relieved to be back on Terra Firma. After checking in to my room, I headed straight for the pool, and did 25 laps – fuelled by pure excess adrenaline.
This evening, the band (well, Davey, Bob, Guy and me) met up with Baz Marshall (EJ’s travel coordinator) and Keith Bradley (tour manager), and had a huge steak dinner at “Bone’s” – the best steak house I know. It’s enough to turn a vegetarian into a carnivore! If I don’t sleep well tonight, I’m in trouble!
