New kit

Posted by in 1997 Elton John World Tour

Today was hard… I still can’t sleep for more than 2 hours at a stretch. I went down to the studio where Davey & Guy are recording a track. Pete has set up my new kit in a spare room, and we messed around, tweaking bits, adjusting positions etc.. It normally takes me a fair amount of this sort of thing before I am happy with a kit. In fact it took me a third of the 1992 tour to get used to the “Versace” kit. So why, I hear you ask, am I changing kits? Two reasons!

1/ Premier like their endorsees to play a relatively recent kit: that way they don’t get kids trying to order obsolete models! Also, a new kit looks smarter on stage. I’ve actually gone for nearly 3 years without replacing my kit, so it was time.

2/ On this upcoming tour, we’re going to be back & forth between Europe & the USA a number of times. I f I have a kit in the US and one in Britain, it would save us a good deal of airfreight charges. So the new kit will “live” in the USA, while the old (old?) kit will be used for the European gigs.
